People who have availed different services from Pritilata Square before shared their opinion
Pritilata was a key member of Masterda Surya Sen's gang of revolutionaries, who made history when they raided the Chittagong Armoury in April 1930. While most of the revolutionaries lost their life in the battle which ensued in Jalalabad Hills a few days later, Pritilata managed to escape.
Two years later, Pritilata reorganised a group of 15 revolutionaries and planned to attack the Pahartali European Club which had a signboard which read - "Dogs and Indians not allowed." She dressed herself as a Punjabi male, and jumped into the midst of the action, sustaining a single bullet wound.
But as fate would have it, the revolutionaries were soon outnumbered, and Pritilata was cornered at the bottom of the tree you see in the picture. On the 24th September 1932, at the spot where her statue stands today, Pritilata Waddedar aged all of 21 years, consumed cyanide and bade farewell to her motherland, our motherland.
Took these pictures during my visit to Bangladesh in January 2019. Highly recommended to anyone belonging to India or Pakistan or Bangladesh - do stand their to pay your respects for a couple of minutes, as she laid down her life for all of us. If time permits you can also check out the nearby museum dedicated to her, as well as the Paharitola European Club round the corner, which was attacked by her and her group of revolutionaries on the fateful night of 24th September, 1932.
